A road trip through France at the heart of its terroirs, time, and people
Julien, in his forties, press photographer exhausted by the cynicism of the editorial rooms, receives an unexpected legacy: a tasting newspaper kept by his grandfather between 1950 and 1970, retracing a journey through France Wine. Determined to rediscover the meaning of his job, he decided to redo this course. He is joined by Clara, a passionate and committed young oenologist, a pioneer in regenerative viticulture, who seeks to document the adaptation of the vineyard to climate change.
Together they sembark on a 100-day trip on board a converted van, divided into 100 chapters/stages through 14 wine regions (from Champagne to Jura, from Corsica to Bordeaux, up toto the Loire). Each day follows a specific ritual: arrival on a terroir, the geographical and geological discovery of the place, the exploration of its history (from the Roman conquest to phylloxera), a striking encounter with a professional or passionate amateur, and a philosophical or technical debate on the future of the profession (biodynamics, hybrid grape varieties, robotics, global warming, generational transmission).
As the kilometers go by, the duo tames itself, confronts his visions of the world (Julien’s nostalgic memory against Clara’s innovative pragmatism), and composes a living, authentic and filterless portrait of contemporary France.
